Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A report in the daily press recently referred to the declining ferry industry in Dover. As part of a Europe that is supposedly working on a level playing field, perhaps it is time for UK ferry companies, haulage associations and exporters to lobby for the European Commission to subsidise the cost of crossing the increasingly expensive divide called the English Channel.

The point is, how can we enter mainland Europe on equal terms with our Continental partners with all the additional costs that we bear? If this is not a case for EC aid and subsidy, what is? A Vent, Faversham, Kent.
