Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Mercedes-Benz is very cagey about improvements in fuel consumption from the commonrail engine, saying it would rather wait for road test results.

In our test of the common rail Vito I CM 10-16 June 19 9 9) we returned laden fuel consumption figures of more than 36mpg, outstripping rivals by 5-8mpg (but admittedly at 100kg less, with a CVW of 2,700kg).

At the Sprinter's Continental launch (CM2-8 March) it was hinted that the automatic Sprintshift function might reduce fuel consumption by as much as 4%.
