GEOFF CAPES, who provides the answer to ever-rising fuel bills, is to defend his title of world's strongest man in a competition in Mora, Sweden, to be sponsored by Daf Trucks (GB).
Among eight events he will demonstrate practical economy by pulling 71/2 tonnes of DAF 3300 tractor over a 30-metre course. Later he will have to load eight 154Ib ice blocks on to a flat-bed trailer hitched to a Daf.
In the recently televised contest in which Geoff won the award for Europe's strongest man there were two somewhat similar events. One required competitors to pull two fishing vessels and the other to shift heavy baskets of fish. Happily it was not Geoff who was dragged into the icy dock.
The competition in Mora will be televised in Britain and 12 other countries in May.
Earlier, Geoff will be seen pulling a Mercedes-Benz 1628 tractor, also weighing about 71/2 tonnes, in the Truckfest at Peterborough during Easter weekend. The world truckpulling challenge, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, will take place on April 7. Geoff will be partnered by Simon Taylor, Peter Cooper and Steve Morrison.
