circulating %rings

inuous roller circulation that is unlimited linear moveIs is a feature of the Series recirculating bearings eted by the INA Bearing Co rhe bearings are used for all of straight guideways and be fitted in any position. ;h and metric versions are ble.

a bearings incorporate !ned high precision ned supporting elements, pieces which are screwed he end faces and a number of cylindrical rollers that are guided between the shoulders of the supporting element with a very close clearance. It is claimed that skewing of the rollers and the resultant increase in friction are minimized as well as forces acting at right angles to. the rolling direction. The retaining elements, made from plastics material and situated between the rollers, not only retain the rollers and prevent them from falling out and sliding against each other, but also provide a smooth return of the rolling elements to the load zone.

Elastic strippers are built into the head pieces to give protection against contamination from foreign matter. Slip-stick during starting and at low speeds is eliminated. In a laboratory test the friction coefficient was 0.003 /0.004 which also applied at the start of the slide. The bearings can be used over a temperature range of —30 deg C to +90deg C. Marketed by: INA Bearing Co Ltd, Minworth, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham.

Temporary windscreen

A temporary windscreen made of pvc and 4ft 3in. by 9ft, which can be fitted to most commercial vehicles with adhesive tape, has been introduced by P.P.M. Windscreen wipers can still be used with the temporary screen which, it is claimed, is re-usable. Price: £4.50.

Made by: The P.P.M. Company, Lynwick, Rudgwick, Horsham, Sussex.

Known as the Series F42-201, a range of oil-removing Puraire filters announced by C. A.

Norgren is designed for a pipe size of in, diameter and for air flows up to 4 Cu ft/min. The filters are styled to match the company's new Designer range.

After processing by a 5-micron pre-filter, the air passes through the main filtration element which is made of pure borosilicate glass micro-fibres of 0.5 micron mean diameter which is claimed to remove more than 99.99 per cent of sub-micron particles. At the same time the coalescence of oil and water aerosol forms bulk liquid which is carried by airflow to the outer porous plastics core. Re-entrainment is prevented by an outer porous plastics sock.

Within the sock the oil and water emulsion gravitates to the bottom section of the element to form a "wet band". Because of the high resistance to flow through this band, clean air passes above it and the oil drops off the.base of the element into the "quiet zone" at the bottom of the bowl. The optional automatic-drain mechanism discharges collected liquids at a predetermined liquid level. Remaining oil content of the air is substantially less than one part in 100,000 by weight.

Price: Standard type with automatic drain £10.60; manual drain model £7.40; compact short-bowl manual drain model £7.40.

Made by: C. A. Norgren Ltd, Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire.

Calculator

A four-function eight-digit calculator, the 803B, announced by Remington Rand, operates from a mains or internal battery power supply. It features full underflow, pre-set fixed (0, 2 or 4 places) or floating decimal point and large-size digitronics for easily readable figure display.

Smaller than the 801B it supersedes, the 803B measures 4 x 7in. x 2in. and weighs 1 lb including its five penlight batteries. It will handle all standard calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, multiplication and division by a constant, chain multiplication and division,

mixed sequential calculations, negative numbers and so on..

For desk use it is plugged into the mains using a separate adaptor. On the move, it is carried in a protective case and will work continuously for 12 hours on one set of batteries. Price: £69.50.

Restraint system

Load-securing equipment, produced by Ellerman's Wilson Line, provides for the adjustment of a loop of webbing with the aid of a patented clamp which allows the overall length of the strap to be varied and is said to provide effective restraint of slipping when tension is applied.

The clamp was designed by Speed Marine Ltd, of Hornsea, Yorks, while development work was carried out by the Industrial Crafts Division of the Ellerman Group for securing palletized and other loads on platform lorries and in vans, containers and so on, life rafts on board ship and cars on ferries.

It is claimed that capital outlay and wear and tear of the webbing are reduced compared with other systems and that clamp maintenance is eliminated. The use of special webbing is not necessary, provided that the material can withstand normal abrasion and weathering, while the configuration of the webbing enables the operator to obtain at least 40 per cent more tension than is generally possible without the use of tension levers on ratchets. Additional tension levers can, however, be incorporated in the system.

The clamp is available in steel or plastics, the choice being dependent on the working load. Made by: Ellerman's Wilson Line Ltd, Workshops Department, Williamson Street, Hull.

24/12V converter

Murphy Telecommunication Systems have produced a system that converts 24V to 12V to overcome the 'problems of excessive drain of one half of a two-battery system. The converter is mounted adjacent to the equipment with an appropriate fused outlet and operates in conjunction with a ballast resistor located on a heat sink and a voltage regulator which reduces the output to the required voltage.

It is a solid state unit and weighs 51b, its dimensions being 8in. x Sin. x 4in. Input is 23/30 V dc while its output is 12 /13V at 5 amp dc. It is known as type 13609.

Price: £14.95. Made by: Murphy Telecommun cation Systems Ltd, Fibbard Road, Brockenhurst, Hants.
