Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Henley's Tyre Guard Which Protects Twin Tyres From Damage By Bodies Wedged Between Them

TWIN tyres, as every operator knows, suffer trom one serious fault. They pick up stones, which become lodged between them and, if allowed to remain, cut the covers and ruin the tyres. At each revolution of the wheel the stone gets more firmly wedged in position and in a short time "irreparable damage is done.

Now, from Henley's Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd., Springfield House, Westcott, near Dorking, Surrey, comes a valuable contribution to tyre efficiency. It is called the Henley's twin-tyre guard and it constitutes a definite protection from this injurious happening.

The twin-tyre guard consists of a rubber insert, which fits snugly between the two tyres and effectively prevents the entry of stones and other bodies. It is an annulus of wedgeshaped section, having sides curved to the contour of the tyre wall.

Within is an air chamber, and there are pockets all around the sides. Small ducts put the inner Chamber in communication with each pocket, and further passages connect the pockets with each other and with the atmosphere outside and inside the ring.

Thus, the guard is flexible, so that it can yield to the changing curvature of the tyre section, and it is adequately ventilated, the continual squeezing and releasing, to which the insert is subjected, causing it to function like s pair of bellows, so that any heat which may be generated is effectively carried away.

An incidental advantage is that it increases the area in contact with the ground when the tyres have sunk a little way on a soft surface. As a result, further sinking is less liable to occur.

The device is patented and is marketed in sizes for tyres measuring 32 by 6, 34 by 7, 36 by 8 and 40 by 8, the off-set dimensions being 4, 4.625, 5.125 and 5.125 ins. respectively. Prices will be quoted on application to the maker at the address given above.
