A CURTAIN-slashing truck thief who targeted truck drivers sleeping in laybys has failed to have his four-year prison sentence cut.
Last October Canterbury Crown Court was told Anthony James Wade Grunwell and his coaccused targeted foreign trucks in Kent, after the drivers had come through Dover.
They attacked 49 trucks stealing £4500 worth of goods and causing £4,900 worth of darnage; Grunwell was involved on six occasions. His barrister Louis French said no violence was used, nothing of high value was taken and it was simply "opportunistic pilfering".
Sitting at London's Appeal Court, Justice Ouseley rejected the claim saying deterrence was required in order to "nip this sort of offence in the bud".
He stressed it was important to protect drivers' rest.
