VEHICLE BUILDERS and repairers in the North East are complaining that main spareparts distributors are adding a charge to their goods to cover Selective Employment Tax, and making a profit out of the move. They have referred the matter to the Prices and Incomes Board.
Mr. T. Irving of Newcastle, a spokesman for the builders and repairers, said that two distributors were charging 7d. to 8d. in the and were making a profit out of it, and had threatened to stop supplies to firms who objected to paying.
