Gold Rush Subsided, But Many Decisions Pending

FROM "Applications and Decisions .' to hand this week, it would seem that, after several months, the "gold rush" has subsided, at least temporarily, in the overall number of applicants seeking contract A and C licence conversions into substantive A and B licences. Nevertheless, there are still many such applications pending in all areas.

Conveniently enough, the decision was not reached in the 28-vehicle A-licence bid by H.M.W. Transport in the Metropolitan Area. last week, and, presumably, the result will not be known until after the controversial ,Merchandise .Transport judgment reasons have been given.

An application to add three vehicles, totalling 22f tons, by H. S. Williams (Haulage), Ltd., in the West Midlands Area could well attract a host of.objections, and will be closely watchedby steel specialists, who are already feeling the consequences of their outward traffic

being carried as return loads by tramp vehicles.

They will also want to know about the application, in the Metropolitan Area, by F. W. Thompson, to add Iwo vehicles to their A fleet to carry "Mainly steel sheets. .. . "

Hauliers in the South East Area will no doubt viant to inquire further into the B.R.S. (Parcels) application to change the base of an A-licensed articulated unit from the Metropolitan Area to Portsmouth, whilst, in the same region, an application for a new B licence by Kennard and Hickman, of Tonhridge, will be .watched by tipper operators in that area.

T. Tozer (Haulage), Ltd., of Walthamstow, could, on the face of their new B-licence application as published, run into problems. The tonnage they want to carry for a named customer "any distance" is substantial.
