AT Liverpool last week, the Kirkdale Haulage Co., Ltd., were granted eight additional A vehicles of 66 tons by the North Western Deputy Licensing Authority. Mr. A. H. Jolliffe. At the moment five of these units were on C licence to Williams Harvey and Co., Ltd., said Mr. J. Edward Jones, for the applicants. However, this organization, as an associated company of Kirkdale Haulage, desired to dispose of their own fleet dnd rely

more upon hired transport.

Mr. L. W. Lewis, managing director of Kirkdale, pointed out that their existing fleet of 33 vehicles specialized in the carriage of metals, especially from the Liverpool docks to factories and warehouses within the city. Now the production of several customers had increased and they were unable to cope with their req u iremen is.

Mr. E. E. Spink, commercial manager of Williams Harvey, Ltd., tin smelters, of Bootle, said they had tiVe vehicles on C licence which were being used to collect ore from the docks. In an attempt to reduce their overhead costs they wanted to transfer these units to Kirkdale Haulage, and still employ them to carry their ore.

Mr. Oswald said he was sure that if the vehicles were limited to operate within a 35-mile radius of Liverpool, the railways and British Road Services would not be affected.

The applicants accepted this condition and Mr. Jolliffe granted the licence in these terms.
