DESPITE a plea from an objector that bulk grain carrying vehicles were standing idle, the Western Licensing Authority. Mr. S. W. Nelson, last week at Bristol granted an application by R. C. Andrews, of Peasedown, to convert a 3-ton 4-cwt, truck into a 5-ton 4-cwt. bulk grain carrier, on B licence.
Giving evidence in support, Mr. Powney, a representative of Spillers, told the Authority that there was a great need for the type of vehicle the applicant wished to operate. Questioned by Mr. T. D. Corpe, who cross-examined on behalf of W. G. Golding and Sons. Ltd. (objecting), he agreed that he had
previously supported an application by Goldings for additional vehicles. Supporting evidence was also given by a reprosentative of the British Oil and Cake Mills.
Mr. W. G. Golding, for the objectors, said that he had invested 125.000 in bulk grain carrying vehicles which, on certain dates recently, had riot been fully utilized. He produced a schedule to this effect.
Granting the application, Mr. Nelson said that the bulk grain carrier was "the thing of the future "to meet new methods of delivery. He felt sure that Mr. Golding would find that, as time went on. his vehicles would be fully occupied.
