• Scania says the Iwo recent runaway scares involving its vehicles are unrelated. This follows an investigation into the claim made by Middlesex haulier Holmes of Heathrow that its lorry suffered a sticking throttle problem like the Scania R124 which hit the national headlines in May. John Holmes said the throttle on his three-month-old R124 jammed open on the M25 on 18 June (CM 9-15 July). But in a written statement, Scania says: It would appear in the Holmes of Heathrow case that a throttle return spring had broken, thus preventing the throttle from resuming its normal idle position." Scania adds that this problem is a "one-off failure", but it has reported the case to the factory in Sweden as a precautionary measure.
