• Greater Manchester police say the scene of a fatal accident last Thursday involving a 38tonne truck "looked like a bomb had exploded".
The Scania artic had swerved to avoid a car but mounted a pavement and ploughed into shops on the Stockport Road in Longsight. The 18-year-old car driver, Waciar Ahmed, died at the scene, but the 34-year-old truck driver, Robert Hadfield from Buxton, escaped with minor injuries.
