very seriously. However, once a week our quirky correspondent, the Hawk, steps off his perch to take a humorous look at the industry to keep us all sane. If you have any off-beat yams that illustrate the stranger, or sillier, side of the business, he'd like to hear from you. Drop the Hawk a line at Commercial Motor, Bird's Eye View, Rm H203. Quadrant House, The Quadrant, Sutton, Surrey SM2 5AS, or fax him on 0181 652 8969.

Mission is possible

0 immy the lorry is a lorry with a purpose. His mission; to increase awareness of the valuable work of the Cancer Research Campaign while at the same time raising the much-needed funds to help find a cure. Jimmy was launched on 6 June at the annual 'dam Hog Roast by none other than Sir Bobby Charlton, when a staggering £107,000 was raised for the campaign. Jimmy, a Leyland Daf 95XF, will appear at special events around the country to raise money as well as running as part of the Irlam fleet, donating his generated income to the campaign. In this 75th anniversary of Cancer Research the Irlams have set themselves a mountainous target, to raise £300,000 by the end of 2000. Now they have Jimmy leading the way they'll get there in no time.
