Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ROADLINE has taken TNT's place in the seven-nation European Express, a consortium of large overnight parcel carriers from France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

The move follows TNT's purchase of lpec (CM July 2), when European Express asked TNT to leave. A spokesman for TNT said that there was no bitterness on either side as a result of the request, but believed that TNT could still offer European Express a good partnership.

Roadline started its European trading last Monday, offering a guaranteed 48 hour service for consignments delivered virtually anywhere in Europe. The documentation is common to all seven member companies and the door-to-door collection and delivery service includes insurance and customs clearance.

A Roadline spokesman said that he hoped for an annual 100,000 plus consignments via European Express. "The customers have had very good service in Europe from this system," he said. "We will not be altering it and so should have no customer problems or complaints."

The move into Europe was a natural extension of our own UK overnight parcels service, he said. "We are adding our distribution weight to what is an already established formidable continental overnight express operation."

The seven members, including Roadline can boast over 40,000 employees, over 13,500 vehicles and nearly 300 parcel depots.

European Express parcels for UK final delivery will be handled by Roadline's overnight Express service, and consignments picked up in Britain for continental destinations will be delivered by the six other companies.

The six member companies are Edmond Depaire (Belgium); Kuoni Transport (Switzerland); Trans-o-Flex (Germany); Calberson International (France); OTE (Italy); Van Gend and Loos (Netherlands).
