Road accidents

PROVISIONAL figures for Britain issued by the Department of the Environment show that road casualties in April (24,500) and May (27,800) each increased by 3 per cent compared with the same periods last year.

Depots open

RYDER Truck Rental has opened two new purpose-built depots which offer complete vehicle hire services.

The first is at Spaghetti Junction, Industrial Park, Electric Avenue, Witton, Birmingham. The second at Jeffreys Road, Brimsdown, Enfield, Middlesex.

Saviem change

SAVIEM UK Ltd has bought a one-acre site and premises at Ashburton Road East, Trafford Park, Manchester, from which parts, vehicle distribution and general administration are carried out.

Retail servicing and repair workshops are also now open, incorporating the latest Saviem designed diagnostic equipment.

Last round

FINAL results in the CMLDoY heats arrived from Manchester this week where 105 competitors took part in the competition. H. J. Davies was the overall winner.

Winners were: Class A: J. W. Hill, Post Office, 40 penalties; Class B: D. J. Clynes, Post Office, 44; Class C: H. J. Davies, Esso, 13; Class D: R. Hunt, Shell, 15; Class E: E. Byrom, NCL, 166; Class F: A. Vernon, Shell, 23; Class G: A. Ratcliffe, Beecham, 69; Class H: H. A. Lee, Conoco, 49.

Custom made

WILKINSON Transport Limited have announced that a new custom-built parcels depot •is being opened on a site of 2i acres in mid-August on the Millshaw Park Industrial Estate, Leeds.

The new depot will be capable of handling up, to 70 vehicles and the existing fleet of 26 collection and delivery vans operating from Morley depot will be transferred and increased to 35 within the next few weeks. The new depot will serve the whole of Humberside with daily runs to major towns in Yorkshire.
