18) about the use of a LandRover with limited slip differential or differential locks. Surely, if the work he had in mind for the vehicle requires such equipment would it not be better to purchase a vehicle which has this equipment fitted, such as the Haflinger?
AThe reader did not ask for alternative suggestions but as you mention the Haflinger it is true to say that this vehicle has an excellent reputation for tackling arduous cross-country conditions and it is obviously always preferable to operate a vehicle designed specifically for the job in hand rather than a converted one. But often cost precludes this.
The Haflinger has four-wheel-drive with independent suspension all round and is fitted as standard with differential locks on both front and rear axles which are controlled from inside the cab while the vehicle is in motion. It does not have as much power as the shortwheelbase Land-Rover but it is claimed that similar weights can be carried with an equal performance.
