New licence revoked after 15 months

• An ex-Newcastle upon Tyne fish-filleter who had entered the haulage industry in 1970 was put out of business after only 15 months when the Northern LA, Mr J. A. T. Hanlon, revoked his 0 licence under Section 69 in Newcastle last week.
The haulier, Mr L. A. Allpress, had been called before the LA following a number of convictions at Norwich magistrates' court in April last year.
The convictions followed an accident in which a vehicle driven by Mr Allpress collided with a private car. His vehicle was found to be in a dangerous condition with defective tyres and brakes, while in addition there was records infringements. In all he had been fined £164.50 and received three licence endorsements.
Mr Allpress told the LA that since the convictions he had employed three drivers on a part-time basis with the vehicle being used to transport fish from North Shields to various places. As a result of buying out his partner he had very little money for spares and maintenance, admitted Mr Allpress.
On revoking the licence, the LA said he had no alternative but to take strong action in a case of this nature.
