DAF TRUCKS has announced its 1982 models which will be shown For the first time at the RAI Show in Amsterdam next month. Engine power, fuel economy and new interior design are said to be the leading themes.

As an addition to the 2800 model, DAF is now launching a 3300 model with a 330bhp six-inline 11.6-litre turbocharged and intercooled engine which has a maximum torque of 968Ibft (1,312Nm) at 1,300rpm.

Extended market studies carried out by DAF Trucks in Europe have shown that the segment. around 330bhp is what the international transporter requires, says DAF. In the new DAF engine, this power output is reached at 2,200rpm and, as maximum torque is reached at 1,300rpm, the power/torque range in rpm is said to give a comfortable operational span.

The gap between the 2300 and 2800 has been filled with the new model 2500. This utilises engine with crossflow, turbo charging and intercooling. The established 8.25-litre engine now develops 185kW (249bhp) • at 2,400rpm with a torque of 915Nm (674Ibft) at 1,500rpm.

By redesigning the cylinderhead, greater life even at this increased output is said to be achieved.

In addition to these new engines, DAF has announced a range of ZF gearboxes which will complement the driveline, and has also introduced new cab styling to the 2100 and 2300 Series. This gives modern comfort to the driving environment, including revised seating, changed dashboard and new trim.

DAF claims that the redesigned, modern styling gives the driver a good view of the instruments yet easy handling of the controls, along with maximum storage space.
