APROPOSED bus link between

Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, and the new Scottish town of Cumbernauld was submitted , to the Scottish Traffic Commissioners at Glasgow, last week. John Carmichael. Glenboig, Lanarkshire, wanted to run the service, but their application was adjourned for more evidence to be produced.

On their behalf, Mr. P. Fraser, manager, said the service would cater for workers at a large adding machine factory at Cumbernauld. Workers travelled there from Kilsyth and three small villages. Auchinstarry, Croy and Condorrat.

W. Alexander and Co., Ltd., ran from Kilsyth to Cumbernauld, but they did not touch any of the three villages. At present, Carmichael ran from Kilsyth to Condorrat picking up workers for the factory who then had to change. There was a big demand for a through service.

Answering Mr. W. F. Quin, chairman, he said 29 people regularly travelled from the villages to the factory.

For Alexanders, who objected, Mr. R. Farrell pointed out that the company ran a special works service from Kilsyth at 7.25 a.m. and from Cumbernauld at 5.12 p.m., both within five minutes of the times which Carmichael proposed. They kept in close touch with the factory concerning travel requirements, and at presennthe facilities Were adequate. On January 5, during an observed period, only seyen people left Alexander's bus at Condorrat to travel to Croy or beyond.

At this stage, Mr. Quin suggested that Carmichael might be well advised to produce intending passengers as witnesses. The factory would soon be employing even more people, so eventually a meeting of interested bus companies might be advisable.
