SiR STEWART DUKE-ELDER, K.C.V.O., F.R.C.S., surgeon oculist to the King and holder of many other important appointments, has been appointed cotssuiting opththalmologist to London Transport.

MR. G. R. EVANS and MR. G. FIRKINS, who have for many years been at the Toronto branch of Leyland Motors, Ltd., have arrived at the company's headquarters for a two months' stay in connection with the export of SIR MILES THOMAS, who until recently was vice-chairman of the Nuffield Organisation and is president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, has been appointed deputy chairman of British Overseas Airways Corporation.

MR. HUGH PEDEN, traffic superintendent at the Broxburn depot of the Scottish Motor Traction Co., Ltd., has been appointed to succeed MR. JAMES ScoiT in a similar capacity at the company's Bathgate depot. MR. THOMAS BELL, traffic superintendent, Linlithgow, will succeed Mr. Peden at Broxb urn.

COL. A. JERRETT, M.Inst.T., president of the Traders' Road Transport Association, and MR. F. D. FITZ-GERALD, secretary, received presentations from MR. W. H. GAUNT, C.B.E., on behalf of the committee of the National Conference of Trade and Industry, at a recent in

luncheon held in London. Col. Jerrett acted as chairman of the Conferetice and Mr. Fitz-Gerald as honorary secretary. It was set up to deal with the Transport Bill when it was passing through Parliament.

MR. W. W. CLARK, engineer and manager of Mansfield District Traction Co., has retired after a life-time of service in

the passenger transport industry. He had served with the undertakings of Glasgow, Lisbon, Luton, Midland General Omnibus Co., Ltd., and Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Traction Co. He is succeeded by MR. W. WILLtamsoN. who has also been appointed engineer and manager of the Midland General Omnibus Co., Ltd., and Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Traction Co.

• MR. H. C. R. MULLENS, Mr, S.V. Swim and MR. G. E. DONO, thiee directors of Morris Motors, Ltd., have assumed responsibility for the management of factory groups. Mr. Mullens is concerned with the 'Midland region, Mr.Smith with the Oxford region, and Mr. Dono with sheet metalwork. These appointments result from administrative reconstruction to vest the control of the Nuffield Organisation in a more compact headquarters board. Other appointments are likely to be made to increase centralization.

MR, ARTHUR COCHRANE, a director of the Triplex Safety Glass Co., Ltd., has been promoted assistant managing director. MR. KENNETH HORNE, Sales director, has also joined the board of a subsidiary company, Lancegaye Safety Glass (1934), Ltd. The following five executives of the Triplex concern have been appointed to the board of that company: — MR. H. W. BAKER, B.Sc.(Eng.), chief engineer at King's Norton, Birmingham; MR. C. L. CRIPPS, manager of the Willesden safety-glass factory; MR. 1. W. FoLLErr, general sales manager; MR. A. G. ROSE, A.C.W.A., general manager at King's Norton; and MR. A. C. WAINE, Ph.D., B.Sc., head of the research department and chief chemist. The average age of the five new directors is 47 years.
