• A Wantage haulier had his nine-vehicle licence curtailed by five vehicles last week and one further vehicle suspended for a month after one of his tipper vehicles had been issued with a GV9 for an oil leak and having a tyre with below the legal minimum of tread.

The haulier, Mr E. Haynes, had been called under Section 69 by the South Eastern deputy LA in Reading last week and was also applying to add vehicles to bring the number of vehicles specified to four. Mr Haynes told the deputy LA, Mr G. Mercer, that he intended to phase out his tippers over a period of time and replace them with tankers.

Mr Mercer told Mr Haynes that he would not be able to apply to add vehicles to his licence until the one-month suspension had been completed.
