roger.browniarbi.co.uk THE HEALTH and Safety Executive (HSE) has launched an investigation after a truck driver was killed at a Nightfreight depot in Northamptonshire.

The driver employed by the transport firm was killed while coupling a tractor unit and trailer at the company's facility in Docklington Road, Earls Barton on Tuesday 7 December at around 6.15pm.

A police spokesman confirmed no one else was involved, the death was being treated as an accident with no suspicious circumstances and that officers will be preparing a report for the coroner.

Nightfreight CEO Ian Smith says: "Investigations are currently underway and we are providing our full co-operation to the police and the HSE into what initial reports suggest, was a tragic accident.

"Our condolences and thoughts are very much with the employee's family at this difficult time."

Smith says that as a responsible employer of 2,000 staff, Nightfreight takes driver safety "extremely seriously".

He adds: "We provide extensive health and safety training for our drivers We also ensure that all our vehicles are maintained to a high standard and comply with current legislation:" An HSE spokesman says: "We are aware of the incident and are making enquiries."
