Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SUPERMARKET GIANTTesco appears to have averted strike action by more than 500 drivers after agreeing to a new pay offer.

The dispute, which threatened to disrupt deliveries to supermarkets across the north of England, is likely to be settled in a ballot to be held this weekend (December 17-19).

A total of 2,100 drivers, warehouse and admin staff are covered by the negotiations, which began more than six months ago. A spokesman for logistics group Wincanton, which operates the three affected depots in Doncaster and Middleton near Manchester, says the revised offer is above the rate of inflation.

"A lot of the debate was to do with the detail that went around it rather than the base rate claim itself," he says.

The Transport & General Workers Union, representing nearly 75% of the workforce, is recommending acceptance.
