If you are going to take the moral high ground, you should first make sure you have a secure foothold. Otherwise, like Bradford councillor Adrian Longthorn, you could experience a spectacular fall from grace. Councillor Langthorn, an anti-drink driving campaigner, was stopped by police and breathalysed after leaving a pub.
The breath test revealed the councillor to be almost twice the legal limit. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was banned for 18 months and fined 1950. The 43-year-old immediately resigned from the council's highways sub-committee.
