Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Christian Salvesen, which bought Swift Distribution earlier this year, has maintained its profits despite difficult trading conditions worldwide.

Distribution is Salvesen's biggest division and operating profits were up 7.1'.4 to 118rn on a turnover of £139.7 in the six months to September.

Overall the group recorded more modest success. Profit excluding exceptional items was up just 1.7% at .E41.1m.

The effect of the Swift purchase is not reflected in the results, because Swift was bought on 15 October. The interim accounts are for the six months to September.
