cif = coming into force SI No 1946 The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) (Amendment) (No 1) Regulations 1993—cif 1 September 1993. Implements EC Directive or speed limiters reducing setting for goods vehicles to 56mph with effect for new vehicles from 1 January 1994.Vehicles first used on or after 1 January 1988 and used on international journeys are affected from 1 January 1995 and on domestic journeys from 1 January 1996. Vehicles within scope are goods vehicles over 12 tonnes mgw.

The speed limiter on buses and coaches first used on or after 1 January 1 988 must be set at 65mph for vehicles used on international journeys from 1 January 1995 and domestic journeys from 1 January 1996.

New vehicles from 1 October 1994 will be limited to 65mph.

Also increases weight limit for draw-bar trailer combinations on five or more axles to 38 tonnes and applies 4.2m height limit to articulated lorries and drawbar combinations over 35 tonnes gvw. Anticipated implementation date 1 January 1994.
