and demonstrated last week in London is B. Elliott's latest travelling machine-tool showroom. The 42 ft.-long outfit consists of a Foden 4AC6/30 tractive unit fitted with a Cummins NHE 195 diesel engine, and a Crane Fruehauf tailor-made F2 semi-trailer with body built by Norwich Coachworks.

The reason for the Cummins engine, and the particular choice of trailer, was the availability of servicing facilities on tour in America. Righthand drive was retained as part of the journey is via the Andes and it was felt that the driver should have a clear downward view of the scenery for safety reasons.

The AEC grille was selected by the coachbuilder as being the only really suitable one to blend with the particular design of cab. Comment from Mr. Richard Foden: "We are not unduly worried as the tour is to sell Elliott machine tools, not Foden vehicles". Norwich Coachworks had the benefit of Elliott's overseas experience in designing and building the cab and body.

The side body panels when open reveal an air conditioning unit and a 15 KVA generator/ transformer powered by a petrol engine and capable of converting any outside current to the required 400 V. If no current is available the generator can be used independently. Detachable roof sections allow easy installation of machines.

The Foden has a top speed of 56 m.p.h., a gradient ability oil in 6 and is intended to operate at 30 tons gross with a 20-ton payload.
