ALL shortages of spare parts for current Austin models were to be eliminated by December 31, Mr. C. H. Rowley, deputy general service manager' ot the Austin Motor Co., Ltd., announced last week. From that date,

three-months' supply of spares would be carried.

In referring to the acute shortage of high-grade steel, he said that as a result of it, the length of a bolt could not be

increased by in. for at least six months.

Mr. Rowley was speaking at a luncheon given by Swain and Jones, Ltd., Farnham. Surrey, to mark the opening of a new workshop and stores, and the presentation to the company of a plaque by Austin to commemorate 25 years' association between the two organizations.

The new works covers an area of 15,000 sq. ft., of which 9,000 sq. ft. is devoted to the workshops and 6,000 sq. ft. to one of the best stores in thesouth of England. Eight vehicles at a time can be repaired over a pit which extends for almost the full length of the workshop. Complete service is provided for Austin owners and full facilities are available for handling B.M.C. and Perkins oil engines. A 24-hour breakdown service is offered, and vehicles up to 7 tons gross weight can be towed.

BIG TEMPORARY PARK

ATEMPORARY vehicle park for use during the Christmas and New Year shopping period was opened by the Minister of Transport in London last week. It is free and can accommodate 600 cars. Coaches may be admitted. The site is the junction of Lambeth Road and Kennington Road, with an entrance in Brook Drive. it miles from Piccaclilly Circus. The park will be open every day. except Sundays. from 8.30 a.m.-6.30 p.m.
