Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

PAA SUB-COMMITTEE was appointed last week by the Heavy Haulage and Machinery Carriers' Group of the Road Haulage Association to draw up a memorandum on the Minister of Transport's proposed new restrictions on the movement of abnormal and indivisible loads and engineering plant, and to establish liaison with other affected organizations.

It consists of Mr. 0. G. Wynn (chairman), Robert Wynn and Sons, Ltd., Newport; Mr. F. Annis, Annis and Co., Ltd., Hayes; Mr. Isaac Barrie, Glasgow Hiring Co., Glasgow; Mr. T, Venn, Red House Garage, Coventry; and Mr. E. W. Voller, Cattermoles (Transport), Ltd., London..

A statement issued by the R.H.A. said: "In addition to such considerations as the increased costs to industry and the extent of the restrictions already affecting heavy hauliers, the Minister's proposals would create the. disturbing precedent of vesting in the Licensing Authorities the .power to direct individual loads.

"ft is the view of the group that for a solution of the problem of road congestion the Minister should seek not to handicap industry, but to provide it with adequate roads and the means to move its goods as quickly and cheaply as possible. Since 1946 the Minister has been regularly advised by the R.H.A. and other organizations of the urgency of the problem of this country's roads."

"GATE-CRASHERS" ON COACH: OWNERS CLEARED

T"persons "gate-crashed" a private coach party travelling from Thorne to Doncaster for the St. Leger, but a case against the owners of the coach, Harold Wilson, Ltd., Stainforth, for unlawfully using the vehicle as an express carriage was dismissed at Doncaster.

Mr. E. Wurzal, prosecuting, said that a Mr. and Mrs. Berry boarded the coach and Mr. Berry Obtained two return tickets without being asked if he were a member of the party.

Mr. E. Wade ktated that he had been organizing parties for the St. Leger since 1932. He did not know all the people who travelled. If he had known that Mr. and Mrs. Berry were not members of the party he would not have had them on the coach.

Mr. D. Walker, defending, asked how the coach owners could kie expected to know that Mr. and Mrs. Berry were strangers when the organizer did not.

INDIGNATION ABOUT MAILS AULIERS in the eastern counties who have hitherto carried Christmas mails for the Post Office have expressed indignation about the growing use of single-deck buses for this purpose. Yarmouth has this year followed the initiative taken by Ipswich in this matter.
