" East Kent" Profit Hopes Affected by the War I N the year ended September 30, 1939, the profit of the East Kent Road Car Co., Ltd., amounted to £58,214. A dividend at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum on 450,000 ordinary shares takes £36,000, whilst the dividend on the preference shares for the three months ended September 30 last (it has already been paid for the nine months ended June 30,' 1939), absorbs £3,250. After transferring £10,000 to general reserve, £16,407 remains to be carried forward, against £17,193 brought in.

Until the end of August, traffic had been so satisfactory that a substantial increase of profits for the year appeared to be probable, but, with the outbreak of war, an exodus of visitors from the East Kent coast towns occurred and, at the same time, it became necessary to curtail operations to conserve fuel. The result of the year's working is approximately the same as that for the previous 12 months.

A CATALOGUE and price list of G.E.C. industrial lighting fittings and accessories has just been made available by the General Electric Co., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, W.C.2. Any reader with lighting problems to solve, for garage works or factory, will almost assuredly find in its 80 pages the means for achieving his desired end. Discharge lights, flood lights, inspection lights, garage-pit lights, reflectors, brackets, condensers, and many other types of equipment, all in innumerable forms, are listed.
