THE Conference of the Liverpool and District Road Transport Employers is considering an application from the Liverpool Carters and Motormen's Union for an increase in the wages of carters and motormen, and for amended working conditions. Recently, dock labourers and warehousemen in the Port of Liverpool were given' an advance of 5s. per week.

Car-to-Ambulance Conversion Specialist

In.A LEADING West-Country automobile engineering cohceni, W. Mumford, Ltd., Abbey Garage, St. Andrew's Street, Plymouth, is specializing in the conversion of used private cars to ambulances. It has recently presented to the City of Plymouth one of its conversions, the basis being a Wolseley saloon, and has, up to the time of writing, supplied over 70 simi" larly converted cars to various A.R.P. centres.

It is prepared to equip as ambulances a variety of makes of car from 16-25 h.p., and the cost, excluding that of the original vehicle, ranges from £85 to £150. It is pointed out that women ambulance drivers find less difficulty in handling converted private cars than adapted commercial motors.

Strength of Scottish Association

A GGREGATE assets of the Scottish PAHorse and Motormen's Association amount to £186,728, states Mr. Robert Taylor, general secretary, in his recent quarterly review. The Trade Union account of the past quarter shows a surplus of £2,703, whilst the defence fund has also increased by £152. The books of all members who have joined the Forces are to be kept clear pending their return to civil life.
