bought a Ford Cargo 7.5-tonner. In his first year of operations he delivered automotive parts to Nissan's Sunderland plant.
He bought his first heavy in 1994; by 1996 he was running a par of artics. Today he fields a pair of Oaf 95 430s and two Oaf 7.5-tanners. This month he is taking on two additional units, both of them Oaf 44-tanners. The steel business dominates his work: 90% of his time is devoted to Elwell, the remaining 10% is taken up by ad hoc jobs.
Wilde is chiefly office-based with a room at Elwell's Wolverhampton site. He describes this private area as "an absolute must". Elwell gets on with its core business and Wilde has the facilities needed to oversee his transport operation.
Construction site drops are not always straightforward, he says: "You can get there on time, but if someone is late then you wait. A lot of industry is like this these days.'
Wilde Transport's LGVs are satellite linked, so Wilde knows exactly where they are and can keep his customers updated on any delays.
