It's fitting that in today's global economy one of the trucks we are following has its headquarters in Asia, Kerry Logistics is based In Hong Kong, and bills itself as the "natural business gateway to mainland China and Asia".

The company's strength is supply chain management and itis part of an even bigger set-up; the Kuok Group. It was established in 1949 and has interests in property, food and drink, hotels, media, technology, venture capital, shipping and insurance Its owned interests include Shangri-La Hotels group, the Bangkok Post and South China Morning Postnewspapers, Jerneh Insurance, PACC Container Line and Kerry Properties. Kerry Logistics employs more than 5,500 staff worldwide, in 180 cities and 23 countries. In April 2002 it set up in the UK in London, Manchester and Leeds.

Operating from Trafford Park, Kerry Logistics has 12 trucks running containers and UK transport manager Mark Hunt is responsible for overseeing the vehicles weekly operation out of various UK ports, The fleet is varied, with older Stral is tractors and Oaf XF105s. The company's role, says Hunt, is that of a freight forwarder.

In September 2006 Kerry Logistics took delivery of two new iveco Stralis tractor units following a six-week trial, and the earlier acquisition of a number of lveco Eurocargo trucks for the fleet.

Our heavy truck fleet has been 100% Scania for years, but our positive experiences with the Eurocargo tempted us to put a Stralis demonstrator on the fleet and really put it through its paces. Initially there was some resistance from the drivers,' says Hunt.
