THE ROAD Haulage Association says the Department o. Transport is making use of funds hauliers can ill afford to lose

RHA commercial officer Mike Diacono has written to the Drive and Vehicle Licence Centre at Swansea complaining about the timi taken to refund vehicle excise duty on lorries taken out of service.

He has told the DVLC director: "While the DTp receives vehicli excise duty from hauliers upon application for a licence, haulier: must wait from between four to six weeks in order to receive refund.

"The DTp therefore has the use of considerable sums of monei for well over a month which at present interest rates is a major los: to companies denied this source of income."

Mr Diacono has asked that the delay be reduced greatly especially in view of the current recession.
