Service Areas on MI Extension: The Minister of Transport has invited applications for the right to provide petrol-filling stations and catering facilities at a service area at Trowell, Notts, on the LockingtonNuthall section of the London-Yorkshire motorway. This section of MI extension is expected to be completed by January, 1966. The successful applicant will be given a 50year lease of the site.

Move to Reduce Test Delays: Motoring organizations have asked the Minister of Transport to extend the validity of provisional driving licences from six to 12 months in order to assist learner-drivers affected by the present delays—up to 19 weeks in some areas—in arranging driving tests. The Minister has also been asked to take emergency measures to recruit more driving examiners.

New Finn Petrol Grade: Another stage in the cut-price petrol campaign started last week when Fina introduced a special grade in three pilot service stations throughout the country to test the holiday week-end response. The new grade, at 4s. 6fd. a gallon, costs 24d. less than Fina's present premium grade.

Edbro Extension: Modern flow-line production techniques arc a feature of a new 30,000 sq. ft. extension to the bodybuilding division of Edbro Ltd., at Foundry Street, Bolton (Lanes), work on which is now nearing completion. The new ground-floor extension has been built primarily for the production of standard tipper bodies for B.M.C. , Commer, Dodge and Ford Thames chassis.

• New Southern Factory for Edbro: To meet a growing demand for its products in B30 London and the South East, Edbro Ltd. moved into more spacious premises at Hayes. Middlesex, on Monday. The factory has 50.000 sq. ft. of covered accommodadon, four times the area of the previous premises at Shepherd's Bush_ The new address is: Springfield Road, Hayes. (Tel.: Hayes 6681.) New Address: United Dominions Trust Ltd. has moved its branch office in Cambridge to Llandaff Chambers, 2 Regent Street. The telephone number, Cambridge 51311, is unchanged.

Jap Assembly Plant for Turkey: The Japanese Isuzu concern has started with the erection of a goods vehicle and station wagon assembly plant in Izmir, Turkey. The plant is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

New Michelin Depot: A Michelin depot has been opened at Tolworth. It is situated in Cox Lane and has an area of more than 7,000 sq. ft. Mr. W. Pace is depot manager. (Tel.: Lower Hook 5495.) More Commercial Vehicles from Renault: The French State concern, R.gie Nationale des Usines Renault, produced 41,658 commercial road vehicles in 1962, compared with 30,083 in the previous year.

Commercial Vehicles in Spain: Some 38,400 commercial road vehicles worth 8.892 rn. pesetas were produced in Spain last year, compared with the 1961 output of 22,144

units worth 7,150 rn. pesetas. Fourteen plants were engaged in the production of such vehicles during 1962. On January 1, 1963, a total of 187,354 lorries and buses were registered in the country.
