IN A BID TO REDUCE the number of unsuspecting truckers caught harbouring stowaways in their lorries, an entrepreneur has unveiled an alarm that alerts drivers if someone is trying to sneak on board.
Zenloc managing director Barry Schofield will introduce his Zenloc Container Alarm to the UK in May. The device is fitted on a container back door and, if disturbed, sends a sound signal to the driver. It also emits a piercing tone and strobe light to warn its attacker it has been activated. It can only be deactivated using the coded electronic key built into the receiver.
The UK Border Agency can order firms and drivers to pay a maximum combined fine of £4,000 per stowaway if they cannot prove they had an effective prevention system in place.
"I believe there is nothing like this product in the world and it should solve a lot of problems for hauliers," says Schofield.
The alarm will be available to rent for £50 a month.
