says BRS chief• THINGS could be looking up for the transport industry, according to BRS group co-ordinator Mr David White—and there is a real danger of a transport shortage unless planning is done now.

Mr White says that all the BRS companies are reporting a real improvement in the trading position and this reflects the return of confidence to industry.

"The show of confidence is coming from some evidence that plans which were shelved by companies 18 months ago are being dusted off, re-examined and in some cases getting the green light," says Mr White.

And the bright spot is the North East. He thinks that the growth rate in the steel and forging businesses could accelerate quickly and by the end of the year he says that the region could be having something of a transport famine.

But the depression is still with the West and Wales in particular, with only a few signs of an improvement. Mr White thinks that confidence is definitely returning in the South East, but it has not meant any quick improvement in traffic.
