Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NORTH British Express Carriers Ltd is to close down thus ending the services run by four of the company's trading names including Tartan Arrow.

The company, which is a part of the National Freight Corporation, is to close because of its mounting losses over the past few years which have come to a head over the past few months.

North British is the Scottish company of British Express Carriers Ltd which operates Scottish Parcel Carriers, Tartan Arrow, A. Ritchie of Glasgow and Robert Ower of Dundee.

A statement from the company says that during the last months volumes of freight carried have continued to go down while losses have worsened; 190 staff will lose their jobs.

Managing director Mr B. K. Bennett said : "We are naturally sorry to close the subsidiary but we cannot continue to offer a service which simply does not pay."

Among the services which will go is the Tartan Arrow service for parcels and small freight and the container services from Scotland to London.

But the collection services operated under the Tartan Arrow banner in the North East and London and the South areas will continue.

Another 85 men in London will be out of a job following the closures all of which will be taking effect on July 10.
