The following prices have recently been paid for units of the sizes stated: 10 vehicles, £6,200; three vehicles, £1,400 (£950 for the vehicles and £450 for the special A licences for 8 tons unladen); one vehicle, £850 (£200 for the lorry and £650 for the licence), and four vehicles, £2,350.

MORE RISES IN FARES?

IT was disclosed at a Conservative I meeting in Nottingham that the transport department will soon make a further application for fare increases to counteract an advance in wagesi of £22,000.a year. A rise in fares on many 3f his company's services has been lescribed as " inevitable " also by Mr. I-1. Bottomley, general manager of Ribble Motor Services, Ltd.

Yarmouth and picked up in Leeds. If the Authority believed that there were need for increased facilities, the company would be eager to supply them.

The applicants had 179 letters of support. The proposed fares were £1 3s. 6d. singte and Et 17s. 6d. return. Journeys would be made overnight.

The Authority granted the application with permission to pick up at Bradford and Stanningley, but withheld sanction to pick up at Leeds municipal bus station. The period of operation and the number of vehicles to be allowed arc to be announced later.

ONE-ARMED COACH DRIVER IN Tuesday, Bristol magistrates upheld an appeal hy Mr. Leonard Charles Munden against the refusal of the Western Licensing Authority to grant him a licence to drive a coach for private hire. Mr. Munden has one arm. The magistrates stipulated that the controls of the vehicle should be suitably

modified. • LODGE IN AMERICA

ASALES organization in America has been formed by Lodge Plugs, Ltd. Known as the Lodge Spark Plug Co., its offices arc in Los Angeles, California. The president is Mr. V. Martin-Jones, managing director of Lodge Plugs, Ltd. Marketing of the company's products will initially be undertaken in the 11 western States.

Sunderland Corporation are to convert four more vehicles to one-man operation.

At least 6,000 more motor vehicles will be imported this year by New Zealand. North America will supply 1,600 of them.

Austin production set up a new monthly peak in March at 20,634 units. Exports of nearly 13,000 of these vehiclbs earned over am.

Messrs. Barton Tours, Manchester, propose to take over the excursions from Audenshaw and Ashton-under-Lyne, at present operated by Messrs. A. Shelmeidine.

Townsend's Motor Coach Tours, Babbacombe, have been taken over by the Devon General Omnibus and Touring Co., Ltd., who will continue to operate the business as a separatesorganiration.
