hich is doing a great Vdeal of good for the road-transport industry by the provision of new and highly efficient vehicles, is Vulcan Motors, Ltd., Victoria Works, Maidstone.

A particularly popular model in the range is the 6-tonner, which has had incorporated in it certain modifications and improvements. Some of these, such as a different type of radiator, have been forced upon the maker as a result of war-time conditions, and in the accompanying illustrations of the Models 6VF/ 2 and 6VF/ 3, the vehicle in the foreground of the two shown together is equipped with what we may term the austerity-type radiator, whilst the other, has the older and slightly more elaborate component, but the oppOrtnnity has been taken, in the former, to increase the water capacity.

As regards bodywork, it is worth drawing attention to the new type of cab, which has been considerably strengthened, also the comfort of both the driver and his mate has received due consideration; for not only are there bucket seats but the leg-room for both has been increased.

The window frames are of a new type,. constructed in steel. There is a deeper windscreen giving greater all

round vision, thereby increasing the safety factor. Smaller additions are a lock on the off-side door and a bolt on that on the near side. Even the steps leading to the cab are of better design and stronger. Ease of maintenance has also not been forgotten. Thus the attachment device which permits the removal of the near-side wing has been strengthened and made easier to manipulate. Greasers are of the push-on type, each with a snap ring. As regards more general points in the specification, there is a better wiring system with junction boxes and a full set of fuses for the charge and discharge 'sides of the circuit. A new type of steering gear renders the vehicle more easily manceuvrable, and greater comfort is afforded by a spring steering wheel. To permit quick dismantling, the starting handle has a splined shaft.

In connection with the brakes, that operated by hand has had the cables replaced by rods, and higher efficiency is afforded by stiffening up the drums at the rear.

An engine detail of a practicable nature is the employment of Stellitefaced exhaust-valve inserts of the screwed-in type. The carburetter embodies a governor, and the setting of this has been modified.

Referring again to the body, additional rigidity has been given to the hinged sides by fitting, in the middle of each, a detachable pillar; the lower end of each pillar butts on to one of the body cross-runners.
