Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

John Taylor, MAN TopUsed sales executive, has had a 25-year career selling trucks, and has been selling used vehicles for the past 12 years. He has seen the number of conversions drop in the last nine years, as manufacturers produce more options for 6x2 chassis with bigger cabs and engines to meet the requirements of operators.

In the past, small cabs and engines on new built 6x2 rigids from the factory were not suitable, so operators would look to convert tractors into rigids.

The 57-plate MAN TGA 26.440 tractor being converted into a 6x2 rigid with a mid-lift axle is the fourth order from a specific customer. “This truck needs a 7.10m wheelbase, which is outside the parameters of truck builders,” he says.

The chassis will be extended for a 8.60m platform body and rear-mounted Moffet Mounty vehicle loader to deliver pre-built modular concrete garages. It will take approximately 80 hours to convert.

The chassis conversion on a new MAN TGS 32.360 is to extend the wheelbase from 3,505mm to 3,805mm. It means removing the axles and repositioning it on the chassis, and a rear chassis extension for a 8.32m platform for a crane to be fitted at the back. It will also get a sliding canopy body for transporting glass. The conversion will take 60 hours to complete.
