Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

REGARDING THE article Worst Jobs in Road Haulage (CM 25 August); I started reading it with a certain trepidation, changing to disbelief, and inishing in total amusement.

I don’t know what tablets the CM team were on when they discussed the subject, but to arrive at those conclusions and expect people to believe these views is far beyond me.

Most of the subjects are not related to road haulage and frequently mentioned motorists. Emergency personnel, recovery, white-line painters, trafic wardens, RDC personnel (huh!), MSA security guard (no dogs, but a well-used receipt book) and an MSA toilet cleaner! They all have their own profession, but it’s not road haulage.

Where is the transport manager in all this? I am

sure if you asked a few of us it would easily ill a special edition of CM with all the work we have to do.

I don’t deny we like the job and it keeps us all busy from dawn ’til dusk, even longer in emergencies. Dealing daily with drivers, vehicles, VOSA, DVLA, HMRC, HM Constabulary, health and safety, insurance companies, garages, the list is endless.

Please spare a thought next time you choose to discuss road haulage and make the transport manager number one.
