Dennison’s chance call lands bespoke order from Besblock

By Kevin Swallow SHROPSHIRE-BASED building block maker Besblock has bought a bespoke trailer from Dennsion Trailers following a cold call visit.
Besblock director Andrew Huxley thought James Dennison, MD of the Lancashire-based trailer builder, was responding to an enquiry, but Dennison was visiting a customer close by and decided to pop in on the off-chance. “We had called a number of trailermakers, but none seemed interested,” says Huxley. “One manufacturer even told us it wasn’t worth their while to design and build a one-off for us. James, however, listened to us and promised to come up with a trailer that would it the bill, so we placed the order there and then.” The bespoke block carrier trailer has twin Tridec rear-steer axles and a lifting front axle, as well as a centrally-mounted crane. The design allows the company to carry an extra pack of 90 blocks per load.
The company makes and delivers 60,000 blocks a day, so the extra payload is important, says Besblock plant and equipment manager Toby Johnson.
“We operate six eight-wheelers and six tractor units with ive block carrier and four tipping semi-trailers. The new trailer not only carries more, it can also get into places the eight-leggers often struggle to access,” says Johnson.
