INTERNATIONAL HAULIER: OWNER-DRIVER ONE VEHICLE LOCATION: Paulstown, Co Kilkenny FOUNDED: 2001 CONTACT: Clare Tennyson FLEET SIZE: Volvo FH12 460 CONTRACT: International groupage

Set up in 2001, Tennyson Treacy International is no stranger to the I RHA awards, having won the Best Newcomer of the Year and Owner-Operator of the Year in 2002 and 2003 respectively.

The company consists of husband-andwife team Luke Treacy and Clare Tennyson. Treacy was driving for Intel International Freight when it went into liquidation in 2002. He now makes a weekly round trip to destinations in Italy for Trinity Transport in Dundalk.

Tennyson manages the financial and logistical side of the operation from the couple's Kilkenny home.

She believes the company's strong focus on customer service, combined with a huge amount of hard work, has been vital for its success. 'You're depending on the customer so, as fares I'm concerned, you have to satisfy them first. I think we've done a very good ob on that."

Tennyson and Treacy have ambitious plans for their business, but these have recently been set aside because of the cost of diesel.

"The plans that we had are practically gone out the window," says Tennyson. "We're running at a loss and there's nobody doing anything about it. At this point in time, it's costing us between €450 and €500 a week more on diesel. Most hauliers are running at a loss and most of them are doing it because they know no better. For the past 10 months, we've been crippled and most people are in the same position as we are."

Despite the problems, Tennyson reckons they won't be throwing in the towel just yet. "After all is said and done, we won't be giving up because of Intel or diesel or anything else. I started this and I intend to finish it by hook or by crook. I don't think we're going anywhere yet,"
