Pigges Galway-based firm handles food deliveries for supermarket giant Aldi from its warehouse in Naas to destinations throughout Ireland. The company also delivers chicken, pork, cheese margarine and butter for the catering industry from Co Cork-based manufacturer James Baly & Son. It delivers pork to Germany twice weekly, backloading with fruit and vegetables.

The fleet is serviced four times a year. "The person who doesn't service their equipment on a regular basis is pen nywise and pound foolish," says Piggott He is cautious about the future: 'Diesel has gone through the roof. The cost to the general haulier has risen 25-40% in the past year. I don't know if well all surviveI will survive because I'm a survivor."
Piggott oversees the training and safety of all his drivers. "With any new drivers I tend to spend a day or two with them. I like to ensure that they are following proper safety procedures on the road and to monitor their attitude to other road users."
Gabriel Piggott is joint sponsor of the annual Irish Truck and Motor Show in Limerick which is popular with IRHA members and the public alike. He also hosts an annual social night out for the entire firm.
