THE HEAVIEST FINE to date for illegal dumping in Northern Ireland has been imposed on a Co Tyrone waste carrier.

Simon Loughran, also known as Simon Dangle, of Cookstown, Co Tyrone, was fined .00,000 follow ing his conviction at Magherafelt Court. He was found guilty of illegally dumping demolition waste from Dublin and for keeping controlled waste in a manner likely to cause pollution of the environment or harm to human health. Loughran had been dumping the waste at Sixtowns, Draperstown, Co Derry, a secluded area on the eastern fringe of the Sperrin Mountains 30 miles from the border with the Irish Republic. Previously the highest fine had been #22,000.
