• Liverpool's biggest bus operator, Merseybus, is being accused of competition by several of its rivals after making a series of selective fare reductions.
Price cuts on five of city routes either match or undercut the four main independents: Fareway, Toppings, Liver Line and Busman Buses.
Three of the five routes compete with newly formed Liver Line, and the 22-bus operator has threatened to report the action to the Office of Fair Trading.
"As yet we have not received a satisfactory response from Merseybus," says a Liverline director. Merseybus rejects the charges, saying: "We feel we have no case to answer."
