Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SO much timber is being extracted from South Mearns that its transport is interfering with the carriage of other commodities, Mr. Alex. Watson, Viewmount, Auchinblac, told the Scottish Deputy Licensing Authority at Aberdeen last week.

Mr. Watson, in partnership with his brother, carries on the haulage firm of A. and W. Watson, who were asking for an additional lorry to carry timber. Mr. James Wallace, manager of a Grangemouth firm of timber merchants, gave .evidence that his firm in the past six months had taken out 60,000 cu. ft. of timber (700 tons) from the area and they had 70,000 cu. ft. still to fell.

The timber, for use in Scottish mines, was transported to the collieries by Watson's, he said, Mr. Watson also mentioned a contract for a further 7,000 Cu. ft. of timber to be taken out of the Drumtochty area. There was work to keep two lorries going 'for any amount of years," he said.

Because of the pressure of timber work, said Mr. Watson, he had been unable to keep other customers going for the carriage of agricultural goods. '

After consultation with the agent for British Railways, who opposed the application, Mr. Watson agreed to drop agricultural goods and requisites from the normal user. A licence for an additional vehicle restricted to the carriage of timber was granted.
