A DRIVER who tried to convince police he had been forced at knifepoint to drive to a dockside location with his Lim load of cigarettes has been found guilty of conspiracy to steal.

Brian Fogg prompted a high-profile reward campaign after the 47-year-old was found gagged and bound in his truck cab in Humberside in August 2008.

He told Cheshire Police he had been threatened at knifepoint by four people impersonating VOSA officers on the M53 in Cheshire, and had been forced to drive to Birkenhead Docks ('Hijack witnesses sought by police,' CM 18 August 2008).

At Chester Crown Court, Fogg, who worked for Preston-based Montgomery Transport, was found guilty of conspiracy to steal. He will he sentenced on 21 October.
