The ferry I took was the my Europic Ferry, from the Transport Ferry Service division of Townsend Thoresen. This ship, captained by Douglas Burgess, was built at the Swan Hunter Shipyard and has seen eight years' service.

It is an extremely comfortable and well equipped ship offering excellent accommodation for both drivers and firstclass passengers. There is a drivers' club room with a bar and colour television and duty free goods can be purchased there.

The ship is 134m (440ft) long and as it has a total passenger capacity of 44 (one for every 10ft. It is allowed to carry any kind of load from livestock to hazardous chemicals.

Vehicles are carried in the ship's hold which offers the ro-ro facility at each port. They are loaded at great speed through the stern drop-down door and a total of over 70 units can be carried both in the hold and on the upper deck. Here a specially built loading ramp is used. Semi-trailers only, as well as complete vehicles, are carried and these are put on board by a tug master.
